If you’re not finished with the baby-naming game this article in Wired will shed new light on how we come up with baby names and why they tend to travel in herds.

Naming has become increasingly difficult as available domain names disappear faster than the independent farmer did in the 1900′s. I mean how successful can your child become if they don’t have a brandable name complete with it’s own domain name?

Seriously though, don’t sweat over choosing the perfect name because there isn’t such a thing. Your kid is going to be just fine with almost any name you attach to them. For more information on why the name is going to sound like everyone else’s any way read the full article on Wired: Why Your Baby’s Name Will Sound Like Everyone Else’s

Our bodies are exposed to plenty of nasty things from the foods we eat, things absorbed through our skin, and through the air we breath. Why not protect your baby from some of these “nasties” for as long as possible by taking some simple steps?

Buying organic is no longer thought of as exclusively for vegans or Peta members. Seems most everyone is awaking to the benefits of using organic products and materials for both ourselves and families as well as our earth. While it used to be difficult to find organic products in local stores the internet has made it easier than ever to find exactly what you’re looking for and have it at your doorstep in a couple of days without ever leaving your home.

We found one company that offers products that will help your baby get off to a green and healthy start by ensuring the entire area they sleep in is as safe as possible. Since your baby will likely spend more than 50% of the time sleeping it makes great sense to focus on that area. Green and Healthy Baby is a store that does just this.

Green and Healthy Baby offers organic sheets, bedding, cribs, and other products that allow you to keep your baby in a safe, non-toxic environment by eliminating potentially harmful chemicals that leach through from a regular crib mattress. Right now they are giving away a free blanket with every purchase so it’s a great time to get your baby nursery outfitted with safe materials.

Baby names are evolving at an increasing rate according to comparisons with favorite baby names from years past. It seems more parents are willing and even eager to give their children names that are unique to them. Although Michael, Mary, John, Linda, David, Kathy and the like are still hugely popular you’ll only see one of them, Michael, on the 2007 list below.

Here’s a list of the most popular baby names from 1950:

Boys name / Girls name

1. James / Linda
2. Robert / Mary
3. John / Patricia
4. Michael / Barbara
5. David / Susan
6. William / Nancy
7. Richard / Deborah
8. Thomas / Sandra
9. Charles / Carol
10. Gary / Kathleen

Here’s the list of most popular baby names from 2007:

1. Jacob / Emily
2. Michael / Isabella
3. Ethan / Emma
4. Joshua / Ava
5. Daniel / Madison
6. Christopher / Sophia
7. Anthony / Olivia
8. William / Abigail
9. Matthew / Hannah
10. Andrew / Elizabeth

Choosing a name is one of the more interesting tasks parents have to perform and we all handle it in our own way. Some people dwell on it for months or even years in advance of giving birth and others wait until the baby is in their arms. Neither method is better or worse then the other and most people we’ve met are OK with their given names so no harm, no foul.

Our children’s names are: Brian, Kevin, Dustin, and Colin. The dog is Pooch and the cat is Moon. Maybe not the most unique names out there, but the kids sure are and that’s the important thing, not a name.

Live Science has an interesting article on baby names worth checking out at: Baby Names.
